In early April 2019, I had the opportunity to spend the night at the Lomnický Peak Observatory. It is the second highest peak in the Tatra Mountains and the highest one that can be reached by cable car. I had been waiting for this opportunity for several months, trying to adjust my trip to the best weather conditions. It worked, and this is one of the frames from the first part of the night, showing the setting constellation of Orion over the highest peaks of the Tatra Mountains.

The image shows the fine outline of the Milky Way's periphery running through the constellations of the Great Dog, Unicorn, and Orion to the constellation of Taurus. You can also see the brightest star of the night sky (Sirius - the brightest object, slightly to the left) and the very characteristic cluster M45 Pleiades - a cluster of stars on the right. A red cloud of ionized hydrogen known as Bernard's Loop is clearly visible around the Orion constellation.. The whole composition was created using panorama and stacking techniques, which makes the resolution and quality of the photo much higher than standard night photographs. The photo owes its uniqueness also to the inaccessibility of the Observatory for ordinary tourists and a small number of night sky images coming from Lomnický Peak.
