An intimate Webb view of the Horsehead Nebula, where cold molecular clouds and red hydrogen wisps meet along a luminous cosmic edge.

This proposal is based on Webb's close-up infrared view of the top of the Horsehead Nebula's mane, a sharply resolved portion of one of the sky's most iconic dark nebulae in Orion.

Horsehead Nebula transforms one of astronomy's most recognizable silhouettes into a refined and atmospheric wall piece. Instead of the full familiar outline, Webb focuses on the illuminated upper edge of the nebula, revealing its sculpted surface in remarkable infrared detail.

According to NASA, the blue-toned lower cloud is dominated by cold molecular hydrogen, while the red wisps above trace mostly atomic hydrogen in a photodissociation region shaped by nearby ultraviolet radiation. The result is both scientifically rich and visually restrained, with a palette that feels elegant, modern, and unmistakably cosmic.
